Carnevali breaks silence on Kessié and David’s future

Juventus’ pursuit of Franck Kessié has officially ended after the midfielder joined Atalanta, while the club still have several positions to address before the transfer window closes.

Speaking to DAZN before kick-off against Parma, Juventus chief executive Giovanni Carnevali opened up about the club’s intense summer, the failed Kessié operation and the financial restrictions influencing the club’s decisions.

Carnevali explains why Juventus missed out on Kessié

“It has been two very intense months,” Carnevali said. “I believe it is a great challenge and one we are taking on with passion. Being here tonight at the Allianz Stadium is a great honour.

“Kessié? He is a player we were interested in and we negotiated for several days. However, we have a settlement agreement that we have to respect.”

Carnevali also stressed that Juventus’ transfer decisions are not simply dictated by the availability of money, with UEFA financial regulations playing a crucial role.

“I have the good fortune of working with Massara and Ottolini. We have an exceptional relationship with the coach and everything is shared. It is not an economic problem, but we have to remain within the parameters imposed by UEFA.

“You have to consider the player you sell, including his salary and bonuses, and the player you bring in cannot exceed certain limits. Perhaps Kessié’s desire to join a big club like Juventus was not as strong as we expected, or perhaps it was a matter involving his agent.”

David future remains open as Juventus assess late moves

Carnevali went on to deliver a pointed message regarding the role of agents and the mentality expected from anyone joining Juventus.

“There are many agents who think more about their own interests than those of the players. Anyone who comes to Juventus must have a great desire and pride in wearing this shirt.

“We have a good team and we must all work together. We know the commitments we have. We still have a few days of the transfer window, but we are not promising anything.

“We know the situation we are in. We have to be honest and fair, but we can do well.”

Asked about Jonathan David and whether Juventus could consider a late sale, Carnevali insisted that no player is completely untouchable if the right opportunity arrives.

“All players are for sale. If there are good opportunities, you have to sit down and discuss them. The decision is never just the club’s; there are many factors involved.

“There are many possibilities, both incoming and outgoing.”
