Juve pick 3 Left-Back Targets: Spalletti makes his choice

Juventus are looking to complete their squad with the addition of a new left-back, with the club continuing to monitor the market for opportunities during the final days of the transfer window.

After making significant changes in goal and strengthening both defence and attack, the Bianconeri are now turning their attention to the left side of the defence.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Luciano Spalletti has asked the Juventus hierarchy to find a natural alternative to Andrea Cambiaso, ideally through a loan deal or an operation involving favourable financial conditions.

The Italian international remains an important part of Spalletti’s plans. His technical quality, ability to contribute to the build-up and tendency to move into central areas make him particularly valuable tactically.

However, his versatility also increases the need for another reliable option who can provide genuine competition and allow him to be managed during a demanding season.

Kalulu and Celik can provide cover on the flank, but both are naturally right-footed and offer different characteristics.

Bringing in a left-footed player would give Juventus greater balance, particularly when it comes to maintaining width and creating natural overlapping movements.

Spalletti is therefore looking for a player capable of operating in a traditional back four but also adapting to a five-man midfield when required.

Hugo Bueno and Maehle Lead Juventus’ Shortlist

One of the most interesting names under consideration is Hugo Bueno. The Spanish full-back is contracted to Wolverhampton, who have recently suffered relegation from the Premier League.

That change in circumstances could make a move more realistic, particularly if Juventus can negotiate favourable terms. Bueno offers pace, stamina and attacking energy.

He can operate as a conventional left-back or as a more advanced wing-back, giving Spalletti additional tactical options. Juventus would prefer a loan with an option to buy, allowing them to avoid a major permanent investment immediately.

Another possibility is Joakim Maehle, who is also coming off a relegation campaign with Wolfsburg. Juventus already have an active relationship with the German club following the arrival of goalkeeper Kamil Grabara on loan, potentially making further discussions easier.

Maehle would bring considerably more experience than Bueno and has the advantage of being capable of playing on either flank. He also knows Serie A well from his time with Atalanta, meaning he should require little adaptation.

For Juventus, that could make him an attractive short-term solution who can contribute immediately in both defensive and attacking phases.

The third name on the list is Emerson Palmieri. The Marseille defender knows Italian football extremely well and also has a previous connection with Spalletti, who coached him during his second spell at Roma.

Emerson’s experience, technical ability and tactical flexibility remain highly valued. He can operate as a left-back or further forward, although his age means he would offer less long-term upside than some of the other candidates.

Cabal Exit Could Unlock the Move

The biggest obstacle could be the situation surrounding Juan Cabal. The Colombian has slipped down the pecking order and appears unlikely to feature prominently in Spalletti’s plans.

Juventus would ideally like to find him a new club before the transfer window closes, either through a permanent sale or a loan. However, Cabal is reportedly keen to remain in Turin, which could complicate the club’s plans.

His departure would not only create space in the squad but also free up part of the salary budget needed to bring in a replacement.

Nevertheless, Juventus remain alert to the market and could move quickly if an attractive opportunity emerges in the final hours.

Bueno appears to fit the club’s preferred financial model, Maehle offers proven experience and versatility, while Emerson Palmieri could provide the most immediate reliability.

For Spalletti, the objective is clear: give Cambiaso a genuine alternative and ensure Juventus have sufficient depth to cope with the demands of the season.
