Former Juventus coach Fabio Capello has shared his views on the club’s summer transfer strategy, stressing that end-of-season evaluations should go beyond league position and focus on what is truly needed to return to winning ways.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Capello underlined that qualifying for the UEFA Champions League should be considered only a minimum target.

“Juventus must go back to competing for the Scudetto,” he said, adding that the team’s ambition has to match its history and expectations.
He also praised the club’s recent contract renewals involving key figures such as Luciano Spalletti, Kenan Yildiz, Weston McKennie, and Manuel Locatelli, describing them as a sign of clarity within the club’s project.
According to Capello, securing core players helps create stability and avoids unnecessary distractions during the season.
“Two or three top signings are enough to win” Capello believes Juventus do not need a massive overhaul. Instead, he argues that just two or three elite additions could immediately elevate the squad to title-contending level.
He specifically mentioned Kim Min-jae (currently at Bayern Munich) and Bernardo Silva of Manchester City as ideal targets.
In his view, Silva—despite being 31—could still decisively influence games in Serie A, comparing his potential impact to that of Andrea Pirlo’s arrival in Juventus’ title-winning era under Antonio Conte.
On the striker debate, Capello urged caution regarding Robert Lewandowski. While acknowledging the Polish forward’s exceptional goal-scoring instinct, he questioned whether age might reduce his overall physical impact.
“He will always score goals,” Capello noted, “but at nearly 40 it becomes harder to lead the attack than to play in midfield.”
He also pointed to Dušan Vlahović as a player with greater long-term potential, though with less technical refinement.

However, Capello concluded that if immediate success is the priority, Lewandowski remains a decisive option: “With him, you win.”
