Juventus has opened talks to sign Atalanta striker

Juventus have officially stepped up their pursuit of Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui, taking the initial steps toward what could be one of the summer’s most high-profile transfers. The Bianconeri, long-time admirers of the Italy international, are eager to secure his signature as they plan a reshuffle in their attacking department.

Retegui first came onto Juventus’ radar during his breakout loan spell with Tigres while contracted to Boca Juniors. After switching allegiance from Argentina to Italy, his decision to represent the Azzurri further amplified his appeal across Serie A.

Though linked with top clubs like Milan and Napoli, it was Genoa who ultimately won the race for his services in 2023.

The 26-year-old forward endured a relatively modest season at Genoa, but it was enough to convince Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini to take a chance on him in the summer of 2024.

That move paid off handsomely, as Retegui ended the season as Serie A’s top scorer with 25 goals, earning the prestigious Paolo Rossi award.

Price tag rises amid growing interest for Retegui

According to Tuttosport via IlBianconero, Juventus have already initiated contact with the striker’s representatives to discuss personal terms.

This comes as uncertainty looms over the futures of Dusan Vlahovic—who could be sold—and Randal Kolo Muani, whose loan is set to expire in June.

However, the Bianconeri are not alone in the race. Atalanta have reportedly placed a €45–50 million valuation on Retegui, and several European giants, including Atletico Madrid and Manchester United, are monitoring the situation closely.

If negotiations with Atalanta or Retegui stall, Juventus are reportedly considering Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund as a secondary option.

The Danish striker has struggled for form in the Premier League but previously impressed in Serie A—a factor that could make a return to Italy appealing.

Juventus’ interest in Retegui marks a decisive effort to reinforce their attacking lineup, and with top clubs circling, swift action may be necessary to avoid losing out on one of Europe’s rising stars.
