Juventus are exploring the free-agent market for a new goalkeeper following Kamil Grabara’s injury, with the club now looking for an experienced option to provide cover for Guglielmo Vicario.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport, Juventus sporting director Massimo Massara and CEO Giovanni Carnevali are assessing several available goalkeepers, with Neto and Sergio Rico currently among the names under consideration.

Neto emerges as the leading option

Speaking from the Sky Sport studios, Di Marzio provided an update on Juventus’ search and suggested that Neto currently has the best chance of returning to Turin.

“Juventus will decide in the next few hours, but I think they will sign a free agent as a safe option following Grabara’s injury,” Di Marzio explained.

The Brazilian goalkeeper is reportedly ahead of Sergio Rico at this stage, largely because he already knows the club and Italian football well. Neto previously spent time at Juventus and, according to Di Marzio, had been interested in returning to Italy.

There have already been contacts with the 36-year-old, with discussions taking place on Monday. Juventus could now make a final decision between today and tomorrow.

Sergio Rico also remains under consideration

Sergio Rico is another option being evaluated by Juventus. The Spanish goalkeeper has considerable experience at the highest level, including an important spell with Paris Saint-Germain.

Di Marzio also revealed that Rico was a goalkeeper Massara had previously wanted to bring to AC Milan.

Both Neto and Rico are currently without a club, meaning Juventus could complete a deal without paying a transfer fee.

However, Neto appears to be the stronger candidate at the moment, with Juventus weighing up whether to bring the experienced Brazilian back to Turin as their new backup goalkeeper.
