Juventus are back in pursuit of Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo, following approval from head coach Igor Tudor. The Uruguayan defender is no longer guaranteed a starting role at Camp Nou under Hansi Flick.

As a result, his future in Spain remains uncertain despite his status as one of the club’s captains. Last season, Araujo made only 25 appearances due to injury setbacks and fierce competition.

Flick now prefers Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez in central defence. Despite being part of Barcelona’s leadership group, Araujo has struggled to secure regular starts.

Ronald Araujo – talks back on the table

Juventus almost signed Araujo in January, with personal terms reportedly agreed. However, Barcelona sporting director Deco persuaded him to stay and sign a new contract.

That deal runs until 2031 and includes a €1 billion release clause. Still, Barcelona are willing to negotiate lower transfer fees to manage their finances.

Catalan outlet Diario Sport reports that Juventus are ready to make a new approach. Tudor considers Araujo a top priority for the summer window. Juventus believe Barcelona may now be open to selling the 26-year-old defender for far less than his formal clause.

Although the release clause drops to €70 million during early July, Juve are preparing a bid between €25–30 million. They hope Barcelona’s squad depth and Flick’s defensive preferences may push the club to accept a lower fee.

Barcelona must also sell at least one centre-back this summer, according to Deco. This makes Araujo’s exit a strong possibility. Araujo could be tempted by the offer of consistent starts at Juventus, something he currently lacks at Barcelona.

The next few weeks will be crucial as Juventus prepare their bid and Barcelona respond. Araujo must also decide if he is ready to leave the Camp Nou project behind for a fresh challenge in Serie A. At 26, the Uruguayan defender is keen to play consistently during the peak of his career.
