Marseille respond to Juventus for Locatelli–Højbjerg swap proposal

Juventus are actively exploring reinforcements for their midfield ahead of the January transfer window, and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has emerged as one of the names under serious consideration.

The Bianconeri hierarchy believes that the current midfield unit has room for improvement and could reach a higher competitive standard with the right additions.

For this reason, the club is planning a targeted intervention in the market, focusing on players who can immediately raise the level of consistency, leadership, and tactical balance.

The Danish international fits this profile perfectly. Known for his discipline, physical presence, and ability to read the game, Højbjerg is highly appreciated by Juventus’ technical staff, with the manager understood to be a strong admirer of his qualities.

His experience at the highest level, combined with his reliability in demanding tactical systems, makes him an attractive option for a team seeking greater stability in the middle of the pitch.

Marseille’s Firm Stance on Højbjerg

However, Juventus’ interest has been met with firm resistance from Olympique Marseille. The Ligue 1 side considers Højbjerg a cornerstone of their current sporting project and has no intention of weakening their squad midway through the season.

From Marseille’s perspective, maintaining continuity is crucial, especially as they aim to remain competitive on multiple fronts. In an effort to unlock negotiations, Juventus reportedly proposed a potential swap deal involving Manuel Locatelli.

While Locatelli is a respected midfielder with international experience, the offer failed to convince Marseille. The French club is not only uninterested in the Italian midfielder but is also unwilling to discuss the departure of any of their key players during the winter window.

This position is strongly backed by head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who sees Højbjerg as essential to the tactical identity he is building at the club.

Marseille’s management is fully aligned with their coach and has no desire to undermine his project by sanctioning a high-profile exit against his wishes.

As reported by TuttoMercatoWeb, Marseille have already rejected the approaches made so far, sending a clear message regarding their intentions.

Given the Ligue 1 club’s uncompromising stance and their commitment to De Zerbi’s vision, a January move for Højbjerg appears highly unlikely.

Juventus may now be forced to reassess their options and look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements, unless circumstances change significantly.

For the time being, Højbjerg remains firmly part of Marseille’s plans, while Juventus continue their search for solutions to strengthen their squad.
