Juventus are exploring new midfield options as they continue to reshape their squad. According to The Athletic, the Italian club have shown serious interest in Houston Dynamo’s emerging midfielder Brooklyn Raines.

The 19-year-old has been attracting attention in Major League Soccer thanks to his composure, ball control, and maturity on the pitch.

The Bianconeri midfield has lacked depth since the summer, and the issue has become more noticeable this season. Luciano Spalletti has experimented with several adjustments, including using Teun Koopmeiners in a defensive role rather than in midfield.

Weston McKennie has also shifted positions often, limiting stability in the central areas. This has led Juventus to examine younger profiles who could develop into long-term starters.

Raines was born in Liberia but developed his football career in the United States. He trained at the Barca Academy system before gaining experience during a loan spell with El Paso Locomotive. Houston Dynamo signed him in 2022, and he has gradually earned a consistent role in their squad.

This season, Raines recorded 27 appearances in all competitions and contributed two assists. His influence extended beyond club football as he represented the United States in several youth categories.

His standout performances came during the U20 World Cup, where he displayed strong tactical awareness and defensive discipline. The United States eventually exited the competition in the quarter-finals against Morocco, the eventual champions.

Interest from City football group

Juventus are not the only club following his progress. The Athletic also reports interest from City Football Group, the global ownership network that controls Manchester City and several international clubs like Girona, Palermo, Troyes, and New York City FC.

Their global scouting and financial resources could pose a real challenge for Juventus. This situation adds a layer of complexity, especially since Juventus are still mindful of Financial Fair Play considerations. They may need to move carefully and strategically if they want to secure the player.

At this stage, Houston Dynamo have not received any formal offers. Only inquiries have been made from multiple clubs. The coming months will likely reveal whether Juventus decide to intensify their pursuit, or if City Football Group move more decisively.
