Leonardo Balerdi, the Argentine centre-back born in 1999 and currently playing for Olympique de Marseille, is once again emerging as a concrete option on the radar of Juventus ahead of the upcoming transfer windows.

According to Calciomercato, the French club’s financial situation could force important sacrifices in the squad, reopening the door to a potential departure for one of their most important defensive leaders.

Financial pressure shaping Marseille’s transfer strategy

The situation at Marseille is increasingly delicate after UEFA sanctions linked to the club’s failure to comply with the settlement agreement.

The Ligue 1 side has already been fined €10 million, but the risk of further consequences remains high, including the possibility of exclusion from European competitions if financial balance is not restored.

As a result, the club may be forced to generate significant revenue through player sales, even from core figures in the squad.

Balerdi, despite being a key leader and even wearing the captain’s armband, is now considered one of the most valuable assets that could be sacrificed.

His consistency, leadership, and defensive maturity have made him a central figure in Marseille’s back line, but the economic reality may outweigh sporting priorities.

Juventus and Roma monitoring the situation

The interest from Juventus is not new. The Bianconeri have been tracking Balerdi for several transfer windows and continue to view him as a profile capable of strengthening their defensive department, especially with long-term planning in mind for a possible post-Bremer structure.

His international experience and tactical discipline fit the type of reinforcement Juventus are considering for the future.

Marseille are reportedly valuing the defender between €25 and €30 million, a figure that Juventus could evaluate or negotiate depending on outgoing transfers and budget flexibility.

However, they are not alone in the race. AS Roma are also said to be monitoring the situation closely, potentially preparing to compete for his signature if the opportunity becomes concrete.

As reported by Calciomercato, Balerdi’s future could become one of the more intriguing defensive storylines of the next transfer window.
