Carnevali has 3 options to replace Cambiaso

Juventus‘ new CEO and general manager, Giovanni Carnevali, has a clear priority as he begins the club’s latest rebuilding project: generate funds through player sales.

The Bianconeri need significant capital gains to rebalance their finances following the loss of Champions League revenue, while also securing the resources needed to provide head coach Luciano Spalletti with his requested reinforcements.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, three players had already been identified as potentially expendable during Damien Comolli’s tenure: Bremer, Khéphren Thuram and Andrea Cambiaso. Of the trio, however, Cambiaso is currently attracting the strongest interest.

Despite being highly regarded by Spalletti, who has repeatedly described him as a special player, the Italy international could become Juventus’ most valuable asset on the market.

The coach once famously defined Cambiaso as a “3D player” — someone who “doesn’t see the pitch only vertically and horizontally, but in a circular way.”

Barcelona and Chelsea Monitoring the Situation

After making initial enquiries in recent months, Barcelona remain attentive to the 26-year-old’s situation. Chelsea are also closely following developments after selling Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid.

The London club are managed by Xabi Alonso, who reportedly wanted to bring Cambiaso to Madrid last year.

Juventus value the full-back at around €40 million. Given that his current book value stands at just €6 million, a sale would generate a substantial capital gain.

Carnevali could also benefit from the strong relationships he built during his successful spell at Sassuolo.

In 2018, he signed Brazilian defender Marlon from Barcelona for €6 million before selling him to Shakhtar Donetsk three years later for €12 million.

He also brought Jeremie Boga to Sassuolo from Chelsea for €4 million, eventually selling the winger to Atalanta for €22 million after three and a half seasons.

Spence, Emerson Palmieri and Ruggeri on Juventus’ Shortlist

Internal discussions are already underway regarding a potential replacement should Cambiaso depart.

Sporting director Marco Ottolini is reportedly pushing for Tottenham defender Djed Spence, whom he knows well from their time together at Genoa.

The Englishman joined the Rossoblù on loan during the second half of the 2023-24 season as part of the deal that sent Radu Drăgușin to Spurs.

Like Cambiaso, Spence was born in 2000 and is naturally right-footed. He is under contract with Tottenham until 2029 and is valued at around €30 million, although a loan deal could be explored.

Spalletti, meanwhile, is said to favour Marseille full-back Emerson Palmieri, a player he coached during his time at Roma. With the Italian international set to turn 32 and his contract expiring next year, he would represent a more affordable option.

Carnevali is also intrigued by the possibility of signing Matteo Ruggeri as part of Juventus’ strategy to strengthen the Italian core of the squad.

Talks with Atletico Madrid remain active following previous discussions involving Alexander Sørloth and Nico Gonzalez, although Ruggeri’s valuation — believed to be above €20 million — and strong competition from other clubs could complicate any potential deal.
