Fabrizio Romano has clarified the future of Granit Xhaka after renewed links with Juventus. The journalist addressed the situation on his YouTube channel, and his comments were later summarized by TuttoJuve.

Romano explained that many transfer rumours appear during international breaks. He noted that Juventus are often linked with several players, even when negotiations do not exist. Xhaka has been mentioned again as a possible midfield option for January.

Romano confirmed that Juventus want to strengthen their midfield, but no advanced talks are happening. The club are still evaluating potential opportunities.

Juventus director Damien Comolli also stated that the winter market will not be easy. He warned fans not to expect expensive deals. Juventus will focus on strategic chances rather than big investments.

Romano stressed that Xhaka is not available under any realistic conditions. He argued that the midfielder was a target last summer, when Italian clubs, mainly Milan, tried to sign him.

That moment has now passed. Sunderland consider Xhaka untouchable, and the player shares that view. Romano described the idea of a January departure as “absolutely impossible.”

Why Xhaka will not move

Xhaka plays a central role in Sunderland’s impressive season. Romano highlighted that Sunderland may be the Premier League’s surprise package so far. Xhaka is the leader of their midfield.

He is their main reference point and a driving force in the squad. Sunderland also invested heavily in him, paying more than 20 million euros for a player who is not young.

Italian clubs once hoped to sign him for a fee near eight or nine million euros. Such a scenario is no longer close to reality. Romano said Sunderland paid more than double that amount, making a January move unrealistic.

The midfielder also has strong ambitions with Sunderland, who are chasing European qualification. Romano explained that Juventus know the situation very well. This is why they are not even attempting to negotiate.

The club understands that Sunderland would instantly reject any approach. More importantly, Xhaka has no intention of leaving England. He feels valued, important, and central to the project.

For these reasons, Romano urged fans to forget the idea of Xhaka joining Juventus in January. The timing, the cost, and the player’s own plans make the transfer impossible.
