The new Liverpool side under Andoni Iraola is beginning to take shape, and strengthening the defence has become one of the club’s top priorities following Ibrahima Konaté’s departure, with the French centre-back expected to begin a new chapter at Real Madrid.

The Reds are now searching for a young defender capable of performing immediately at the highest level, and one of the names high on their shortlist is Joel Ordóñez, the Ecuadorian centre-back currently playing for Club Brugge.

Ordóñez Emerges as a Leading Target for Liverpool

Ordóñez possesses many of the qualities sought by the Basque coach. Standing at 1.88 metres tall, the defender combines physical strength with excellent reading of the game.

He has impressed with his ability to defend in open spaces and contribute to attacking moves with confidence and composure.

More than just an aggressive presence in one-on-one duels, Ordóñez has shown significant potential in building play from the back and managing possession under pressure.

Club Brugge are fully aware they have one of Europe’s most promising young defenders on their books and are unwilling to lower their demands.

Despite a lower estimated market value, the Belgian club have reportedly set an asking price of around €50 million, strengthened by the fact that the player remains under contract until 2029.

Liverpool’s interest is nothing new, as Ordóñez has been linked with the Premier League side for several months. However, the need to replace Konaté has now made a potential move considerably more concrete.

Juventus Could Reignite Their Pursuit of Giovanni Leoni

Ordóñez’s possible arrival at Anfield could also have indirect consequences for the Italian transfer market reports TuttoJuve.

Should Liverpool complete the deal, Juventus could step up their pursuit of Giovanni Leoni. The young Italian defender remains one of the most highly rated profiles among the Bianconeri hierarchy and is considered a long-term investment strongly appreciated by sporting director Giovanni Carnevali.

Juventus could attempt to secure Leoni through a more financially sustainable formula, potentially proposing an initial loan deal with either an option or an obligation to buy.

Such a solution would allow the Turin giants to strengthen their defensive department without committing to a major immediate investment.
