After his stint in Saudi Arabia, João Cancelo could soon be set for a return to European football. The Portuguese full-back is once again one of the most talked-about names ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window, with several clubs closely monitoring his situation.

According to reports from TuttoJuve, Cancelo’s future appears increasingly likely to be decided in Europe, where his experience and versatility remain highly valued.

Cancelo’s Barcelona Spell and Tactical Versatility

During the 2023–2024 season, Cancelo left a strong impression while playing for FC Barcelona. Primarily deployed as a right-back, the Portuguese international also proved his adaptability by featuring on the left flank when needed.

Over the course of that campaign, he made 42 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing five assists.

His performances highlighted not only his attacking contribution, but also his reliability in defensive phases, making him one of the most complete full-backs of that season.

Despite this successful spell, circumstances at Barcelona have changed. Following Cancelo’s departure, Jules Koundé established himself as the club’s first-choice right-back, significantly reducing the chances of an immediate return for the Portuguese defender.

While Barcelona remain an option, they are no longer viewed as Cancelo’s top priority.

European Ambitions and Juventus Interest

As reported by TuttoJuve, Simone Inzaghi is not planning to register Cancelo for domestic competitions from January onward, prompting the player to seriously consider a move.

Cancelo’s main objective is clear: to secure regular playing time at a high level in Europe in order to arrive at the 2026 World Cup in peak physical and competitive condition.

Alongside Spain, possible destinations include England and Portugal, leagues where Cancelo has already proven himself and where his profile would fit seamlessly.

The January 2026 transfer window could therefore feature one of its most intriguing moves, with multiple European clubs ready to invest in a player who brings international experience, technical quality, and tactical flexibility.

Juventus are also watching the situation with interest. The Italian giants see Cancelo as a potential reinforcement for the flanks, capable of adding depth, leadership, and attacking thrust as they plan for the second half of the season and beyond.
