“It’s true, I’ve informed the club that I will not be renewing my contract. We’ll see what happens this summer, but the management is aware of my decision. Several clubs are interested, and I will decide my future once Ligue 1 is over.” With these words to Kosovo’s Radio Dukagjini, Edon Zhegrova has officially put himself on the market ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The Lille winger has enjoyed an impressive first half of the season, bolstered by his performances in the Champions League. Where his team is set to face Borussia Dortmund in the Round of 16.

Should they advance past Benfica, a high-profile quarter-final clash with Barcelona awaits. His form and increasing reputation have naturally attracted the attention of several top clubs. Including some from Serie A, a league he has been linked to in the past.

Edon Zhegrova, born in 1999, has contributed eight goals and two assists in 21 appearances before a serious muscle injury in mid-December sidelined him for approximately three months. Expected to return to full fitness soon, his market value has significantly increased since Lille signed him for €7 million from Basel in 2021.

A left-footed winger known for his dribbling ability and knack for creating numerical superiority, Zhegrova has also sharpened his goal-scoring instincts. Under Paulo Fonseca last season, he reached 12 goals in all competitions, demonstrating his growing offensive impact.

Adding to his appeal is the fact that his contract expires in 2026, meaning he has just one year left after this season. This makes him an attractive, potentially affordable target for clubs looking to reinforce their attacking options.

For Lille, however, the situation is concerning, especially with the imminent departure of star striker Jonathan David on a free transfer.

Zhegrova has long been on the radar of Serie A clubs. Including here Roma and Napoli, but Juventus and Milan seem to be leading the chase. Juventus’ sporting director has been an admirer of the Kosovo international for years. And having previously attempted to sign him while working for Napoli.

However, the Bianconeri already have several wingers: Weah, Nico González, Yildiz, Mbangula, and Chico Conceição which could make a move more complicated. Additionally, Juventus has already committed €25 million for Nico González’s permanent transfer, further limiting their budget for new wide players.

Milan, on the other hand, is facing a summer of major decisions regarding both their squad and management structure. With uncertainties surrounding Rafa Leão’s future, as well as the likely departures of Samu Chukwueze and other underperforming players, the Rossoneri may see Zhegrova as an ideal reinforcement.

Milan also has strong scouting connections with Ligue 1, and Lille in particular, making negotiations potentially smoother.

For Zhegrova, this summer could be the turning point of his career. A chance to take the next step and establish himself at a top European club. Whether that next move leads him to Juventus, Milan, or another destination remains to be seen reports from the CalcioMercato.
