Juventus’ interest in Sandro Tonali is far from new, and according to Fabrizio Romano, it remains one of the most talked-about ideas inside the club despite the many obstacles involved.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano provided a detailed update on the situation, clarifying the real stance of Juventus and the difficulties of any potential move.

His comments were later summarized by TuttoJuve and give a clear picture of where things stand today. Tonali is widely admired within the Juventus hierarchy.
When Romano refers to Juventus’ interest, he means the entire club structure, including the technical area and management. The admiration reportedly extends to the new head coach Luciano Spalletti and, above all, to Damien Comolli.
Romano revealed that Comolli had already tried last summer to explore every possible path to bring Tonali to Turin, but the operation proved impossible to complete.
The biggest issue remains Newcastle United. The English club has shown no intention of opening negotiations, especially during the January transfer window.
As Romano explained, breaking through Newcastle’s resistance at this stage would be an almost impossible mission. Juventus may monitor the situation, but for now the Premier League side stands firm and shows no willingness to negotiate.

No Swap Deals and a Closed January Window
Romano also addressed rumors surrounding a possible swap deal involving Jonathan David and Tonali. According to him, there is no truth to those claims.
Juventus and Newcastle are not working on any David–Tonali exchange, and such a scenario is not currently on the table. Despite this, Tonali remains a key name on Juventus’ shortlist. Romano stressed that the club has no intention of removing him from its long-term plans.
Internally, Tonali is seen as the ideal midfielder to become the future heartbeat of the team, a player capable of reshaping Juventus’ midfield identity over the coming years.
However, the reality is harsh. Newcastle have already shown in the past that they are extremely tough negotiators, as seen with players like Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimarães.

Selling key assets is not something they do easily, and this makes any January move for Tonali extremely unlikely. Looking ahead to the summer and beyond, Juventus will continue to admire Tonali from afar.
As Fabrizio Romano underlined, the dream is alive, but the financial and strategic discussions required to make it real are still complex. For now, Tonali remains Juventus’ dream for the future, rather than a concrete option for the present.
