According to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his official YouTube channel, Jean-Philippe Mateta has become one of the most discussed attacking options on the January transfer market, with Juventus and Aston Villa both closely monitoring the Crystal Palace striker.

Romano revealed that Mateta personally went to Crystal Palace’s headquarters alongside his lawyer and agent to formally request a transfer, making his intentions very clear.

The French forward has been on Juventus’ radar for a significant period during the winter transfer window, and crucially, an economic agreement between Mateta and Juventus is already in place.

This shows how serious the Italian giants are about bringing the striker to Turin. While Aston Villa have also shown interest, Romano reports that Mateta is currently their second-choice option, with Tammy Abraham being the club’s main priority and Youssef En-Nesyri another alternative on their shortlist.

Mateta’s Preference and Crystal Palace’s Stance

Romano also emphasized that Mateta has ruled out moves to Saudi Arabia and Turkey, despite receiving multiple proposals from clubs in those regions.

The player’s preference is clear: either a move to Italy or staying in the Premier League. This stance further strengthens Juventus’ position, as the player is fully aligned with the idea of joining the Serie A side.

However, the main obstacle in the deal is not related to personal terms or agent commissions.

As Fabrizio Romano explained, the real issue lies with Crystal Palace’s demands. The English club is asking for a fee of around €40 million and wants a permanent transfer, conditions that Juventus currently consider excessive.

With less than ten days remaining before the transfer window closes, the situation remains delicate. Romano underlined that if Crystal Palace do not soften their demands, Juventus could be forced to shift their focus to alternative targets.

For now, Mateta’s future remains open, but his desire to leave Palace is no longer a secret.
