Juventus wants Calafiori with Elkann’s request

Juventus have reportedly reignited their interest in Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori, currently at Arsenal, as they look to strengthen their defensive line ahead of next season.

According to TuttoJuve, the Bianconeri are once again tracking the former Bologna centre-back, who had already been close to joining the club in the summer of 2024 before completing a €50 million move to London.

A Deal Dependent on Key Conditions

Any potential transfer, however, hinges on two crucial factors. First, Juventus must secure mathematical qualification for the next edition of the UEFA Champions League.

Second, the player himself would need to push for a move—an element that could prove decisive in convincing Arsenal to lower their financial demands.

Behind this renewed interest lies a broader vision from within the club. John Elkann is believed to be advocating for a return to a strong Italian core within the squad—a strategy that historically defined Juventus’ success and also formed the backbone of Italy’s national team.

At a time when Italian football is seeking renewed identity and leadership, investing in top domestic talent is seen as a long-term solution, aligning with the direction of the national setup led by Luciano Spalletti.

Calafiori’s Role in Juventus’ Future

While Calafiori has gained valuable experience in the Premier League, his playing time in recent weeks has become less consistent.

A return to Italy could offer him a more central role, particularly in a Juventus project that is eager to rebuild with a clear tactical identity. His left-footed profile, composure in possession, and significant room for development make him an ideal candidate to anchor the club’s future defense.

Alternative options such as Marcos Senesi and Antonio Rüdiger remain on the radar, but it is Calafiori who excites the Juventus fanbase the most.

Ultimately, much will depend on Arsenal’s willingness to negotiate for a player they invested heavily in just two years ago. Juventus, for their part, appear ready to act—but turning interest into a concrete deal may require a decisive push from the player himself.
