Juventus surprise: Benfica star becomes a serious option

Juventus continue to move actively in the transfer market as they search for a new goalkeeper ahead of next season.

While the main target remains Aston Villa’s Emiliano “Dibu” Martinez, the Bianconeri are also evaluating alternative solutions, with Benfica’s Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin emerging as a new option.

Luciano Spalletti recently confirmed that Juventus are looking to strengthen the goalkeeper position, despite already having two players in the squad.

“We already have two goalkeepers, but we want competition and we are looking for another goalkeeper. We will see, there are many players who will now find new opportunities.”

“Dibu Martinez is one of those who could probably change clubs, but we have to make a careful and balanced market because we do not have unlimited resources to spend big money,” Spalletti said after Juventus’ friendly victory against Standard Liege.

The coach’s words made it clear that the club is searching for a new number one, with neither Michele Di Gregorio nor Mattia Perin expected to be the definitive starter next season.

Martinez Remains the Priority, But Juventus Study Alternatives

The first name on Juventus’ list remains Emiliano Martinez. The Argentine World Cup runner-up is the preferred choice, but an agreement with Aston Villa has not yet been reached.

The Premier League club continues to request around €12-15 million for the former Arsenal goalkeeper, forcing Juventus to carefully consider other possibilities.

One of the alternatives is Zion Suzuki from Parma. The Japanese international goalkeeper has attracted interest from several clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, but for Juventus he currently represents an option rather than the main target.

The same applies to Guglielmo Vicario, who could leave Tottenham, and Anatoliy Trubin, the highly-rated Ukrainian goalkeeper currently at Benfica.

According to La Stampa, Juventus and Benfica made contact over the weekend regarding Trubin, a goalkeeper who is highly appreciated by the Italian club.

The 2001-born player has less experience compared to Martinez, who was born in 1992, but he is considered a goalkeeper with enormous potential and room for growth.

The main obstacle remains the asking price. Benfica are reportedly demanding a fee close to €30 million, including bonuses, to allow Trubin to leave.

For now, Juventus have other priorities and are still waiting to understand whether the Martinez operation can be completed.

However, if the deal with Aston Villa collapses, the Bianconeri could seriously evaluate the possibility of negotiating for Trubin.

At this stage, the Ukrainian remains a second-choice option, but his name is firmly on Juventus’ shortlist for the future of the goalkeeping position.
