Juventus move for Liverpool’ defender

When it comes to defensive reinforcements, the name generating the most interest at Juventus is reportedly Giovanni Leoni, the Italian centre-back currently at Liverpool who is finally approaching a return after suffering a serious ACL injury in September 2025.

The 2006-born defender is expected to resume training with the Reds in the coming weeks. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, how Leoni responds after such a lengthy spell on the sidelines will be one of the key factors Juventus monitor before making any decisions about his future.

Juventus had already made initial enquiries about Leoni in recent months, seeking to determine whether Liverpool might consider a temporary solution that would allow the young defender to regain regular playing time.

Liverpool, however, were not open to the possibility at the time, instead opting to oversee Leoni’s recovery themselves.

Nevertheless, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus have not closed the file on the defender, and his return to action will be followed closely.

Giovanni Leoni – A Profile That Fits Juventus’ Plans

Leoni represents precisely the type of player favoured by Juventus’ new management: young, Italian, already possessing significant international experience and boasting technical qualities that suit a team looking to defend proactively and build from the back.

The main obstacle, naturally, will be Liverpool. If Leoni manages to return to the level he displayed before his injury, his market value could rise quickly, potentially making any future deal considerably more difficult for Juventus.
