With Weston McKennie’s future at Juventus increasingly uncertain, the club is actively preparing for life without him.

The American midfielder’s contract extension talks have hit a standstill, prompting speculation about a possible departure. McKennie has also slipped down the pecking order under new head coach Igor Tudor.

Tudor has shown a preference for pairing Khephren Thuram and Manuel Locatelli in midfield, sidelining the USMNT player.

In light of these developments, Juventus have revived their interest in Florentino Luís. The Benfica midfielder could become a strategic addition, especially if McKennie is sold.

According to journalist Giovanni Albanese from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Florentino is seen as a financially viable option. The Texan currently earns around €2.5 million annually and is seeking a salary increase.

In contrast, Florentino’s earnings are at €1.6 million per season. He would reportedly accept a move to Juventus for an improved €2.6 million yearly wage.

Florentino Luís brings tactical balance and defensive solidity

Florentino has been a loyal servant to Benfica, having progressed through nearly every level of the club’s academy. Now 25, he has solidified his status as a consistent first-team player.

His playing style fits Juventus’ current needs perfectly. Operating just in front of the backline, he thrives as a defensive shield.

His ball-winning skills and ability to read the game offer vital protection. Additionally, his physical presence and tactical discipline allow the team to commit more players in attack.

Benfica are reportedly seeking a transfer fee between €35 and €40 million. Despite the hefty price tag, the Portuguese club is open to negotiating payment terms. This flexibility could help Juventus structure a deal that aligns with their financial strategy this summer.

With McKennie likely to move on and Florentino eager for a new challenge, the transfer could prove to be a win-win solution for all involved.
