Galatasaray v Juventus | Expected Lineup

Two European heavyweights collide in Istanbul as Galatasaray and Juventus meet in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie. Although both sides recorded three wins during the league phase, their journeys unfolded very differently.

Galatasaray finished significantly higher in the standings, while Juventus had to settle for a play-off place for the second consecutive season.

For Galatasaray, this marks their first progression beyond the league phase since the 2013/14 campaign, when they were eliminated by Chelsea.

This time, however, belief runs deeper. Despite closing the group stage with a 2-0 loss to Manchester City, the Turkish champions have responded emphatically.

Four consecutive February victories — each featuring at least three goals — underline their attacking momentum, including a commanding 5-1 triumph over Eyupspor.

Strong domestic form has reinforced their confidence. Sitting comfortably atop the Turkish league, Galatasaray can now channel their full attention toward Europe.

Their home record further strengthens their case: just one defeat in their last 11 European matches in Istanbul highlights how formidable they are on their own turf.

Historically, they have also performed well against Italian opposition, rarely tasting defeat and never losing at home in such encounters.

Juventus Seek Stability and Redemption

Juventus arrive in Turkey aiming to rewrite recent European disappointments. Last season, they were eliminated at this stage by PSV, and they will be determined to avoid a repeat.

Encouragingly, the Italian side ended their league phase with three straight clean sheets and remain unbeaten in the competition under Luciano Spalletti.

However, domestic turbulence casts a shadow. A dramatic 3-2 defeat to Inter extended their inconsistent run, and defensive vulnerabilities on the road remain a concern.

History adds intrigue to this contest. Galatasaray have lost only once in their last six Champions League meetings with Juventus and famously secured a 1-0 win in Istanbul in 2013.

Expected Starting XI by Luciano Spalletti according to Sky Sport:
