Juventus’ midfield emergency could give Augusto Owusu a major opportunity to step into the spotlight.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Manuel Locatelli’s injury has forced Luciano Spalletti to look for fresh solutions, with the Juventus manager now ready to make use of resources from the club’s Next Gen setup.

One of the players who could benefit most is Owusu, a talented midfielder born in Turin in 2005 who has spent almost his entire footballing career inside the Bianconeri academy.

Owusu joined Juventus at just seven years old and progressed through virtually every level of the club’s youth system. The only exception came during the 2022/23 season, when he spent time on loan at Reggiana.

Since the 2024/25 campaign, he has been a regular member of Juventus Next Gen and has established himself as an important figure within the squad.

His numbers currently stand at 53 appearances, with two assists and no goals, but his value goes far beyond statistics.

Augusto Owusu – A Midfielder Named After Seedorf

Interestingly, Owusu already has football running through his name. His middle name is Seedorf, chosen by his father as a tribute to legendary Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf, who enjoyed a remarkable career with Real Madrid, Inter and AC Milan.

On the pitch, Augusto Owusu offers many of the qualities associated with a modern midfielder. He is physically strong, dynamic and athletically gifted, while also possessing the versatility to perform in different roles.

He can operate in front of the defence as a holding midfielder, but he is equally capable of playing as a box-to-box midfielder, winning possession and immediately driving the team forward during attacking transitions.

Spalletti has already had the chance to assess him closely. During the summer, the Juventus coach took Owusu on the club’s tour and clearly liked what he saw.

Rather than sending him out on another loan, Juventus decided that the youngster would remain with Next Gen and continue his development within the club. Now, however, the situation has changed.

With injuries creating an unexpected shortage in midfield, Owusu could finally get his chance with the first team. What initially looked like an emergency for Spalletti could become a huge opportunity for one of Juventus’ homegrown talents.

For Owusu, the next step is no longer simply about developing with the Next Gen side. The door to the Juventus first team has opened.
