In recent weeks, Atlético Madrid has gained an unexpected following — around 15 million new fans, mostly Juventus supporters. Their growing interest is not random. It’s driven by Nico González, the Argentine winger now making waves under Diego Simeone’s guidance.
According to football journalist Nicolò Schira, the 26-year-old’s performances could have major financial implications for Juventus in the coming months.

Nico’s journey in Spain has begun in the best possible way. After joining Atlético last summer, he quickly secured a place in Simeone’s lineup. “El Cholo” personally pushed for the transfer, having admired the player since his Fiorentina days.
A few years ago, club owner Rocco Commisso had blocked Atlético’s attempt to sign him, but this time the move went through — on loan for €8 million, with a €25 million buy option and an additional €5 million in bonuses.
The agreement also includes a clause that turns the option into an obligation once González meets a specific appearance quota. For Juventus, that means a potential €32 million sale, plus €1 million more if Atlético qualifies for the 2026/27 Champions League. That extra bonus already looks like a formality, given Atlético’s strong start to the season.
Simeone’s confidence and a new beginning for Nico

González’s Spanish adventure has been a breath of fresh air after his difficult period in Turin. Under Thiago Motta, he never fully settled, and Igor Tudor’s arrival made his situation even tougher.
His limited role during the Club World Cup convinced him that it was time for a change. The move to Madrid, it seems, was the perfect reset. Since his debut in La Liga — crowned by a goal against Villarreal — Nico has continued to impress.

He has already featured in matches against Mallorca, Real Madrid, and Celta Vigo, reaching nearly 250 minutes of play. Atlético is reportedly delighted with his impact, with Simeone seeing him as an integral piece of the team’s attacking setup.
Even if the automatic purchase clause doesn’t activate, Schira reports that Atlético’s management intends to keep González permanently. The club is expected to reopen talks with Juventus, possibly negotiating a small discount, to make the move final.
For Juventus, that would mean not only a financial boost for next summer’s transfer campaign but also the satisfaction of seeing one of their former players thrive abroad.
