PREVIEW: ASTON VILLA VS JUVENTUS
Juventus are on the road once again in Matchday 5 of the League Phase of this season’s UEFA Champions League, this time in Birmingham where English Premier League side Aston Villa lie in wait.
Before Wednesday’s 21:00 CEST kick-off, here’s all you need to know about our upcoming continental clash:
THREE’S A CHARM | This will be the third time that Aston Villa and Juventus will face each other between the Champions Cup and UEFA Champions League, following two quarter-final meetings in 1982/83. Juventus won by an aggregate score of 5-2, winning both matches, finishing second in the tournament that season.
TOUGH TRIP | Juventus has won just three of the last 15 away matches against English teams in European competitions (3D, 9L). This will be the first away match against a British opponent since the 0-4 defeat against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League in November 2021.
HOME FORM | Aston Villa won their first two home matches in the Champions League this season – among English teams, only Spurs in 2010 and Leicester in 2016 have won all three of their opening fixtures in the competition.
KEY MAN | Dusan Vlahovic has been involved in five goals in his six away trips played in the UEFA Champions League with Juventus (four goals and one assist), taking part in at least one goal in each of the three most recent matches. No player in a Bianconero shirt has ever scored or served assists in four consecutive away appearances in the competition.
WELL-ACQUAINTED | Aston Villa coach Unai Emery has already beaten Juventus twice in the UEFA Champions League, first with Sevilla in 2015 and then with Villarreal in 2022. No coach has ever beaten the Bianconeri with three different teams in the competition.
