Juventus – Manchester United swap deal?

According to Calciomercato, Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli may attempt to broker a high-profile part-exchange deal Vlahovic – Hojlund with Manchester United this summer.

With the transfer window approaching, both clubs appear eager to reshape their attacking options.

Manchester United are preparing for a pivotal summer under newly appointed manager Ruben Amorim, with a marquee centre-forward said to be a top priority.

Among the names circulating, Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic continues to feature prominently. The Serbian has been on United’s radar for some time. And Giuntoli may seize the opportunity to offer him as part of a strategic swap deal.

Juventus, in turn, have set their sights on Rasmus Hojlund, the young Danish forward United signed from Atalanta last year.

Reports indicate Hojlund is under “special observation” by the Bianconeri. With Giuntoli particularly keen on his long-term potential. Alternatively, Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali is also of interest to the Italian club, though his situation remains more complex.

Interestingly, Hojlund currently commands a higher market valuation than Vlahovic, whose contract is due to expire in June 2026.

Juventus reportedly value Vlahovic at approximately £26 million and may use him as a bargaining chip in their bid to sign Hojlund.

Is Vlahovic fit for Manchester United?

While Vlahovic boasts a better goal return this season scoring 14 goals in Serie A his inefficiency in front of goal raises concerns.

The 25-year-old has missed 14 big chances this campaign and continues to struggle with ball retention and aerial duels, which are key attributes required in the Premier League.

On the other hand, Hojlund has endured a mixed debut season in England, managing just eight goals so far. However, it’s important to note that the 21-year-old has received limited service and missed only four clear-cut chances in the league.

His athleticism, movement, and work ethic remain assets United could build upon with the right tactical setup.

In light of this, a direct swap involving Hojlund and Vlahovic may not be advantageous for the Red Devils. If United are to consider using Hojlund in a part-exchange deal, a more ambitious target such as Napoli’s Victor Osimhen might be worth pursuing.

An ideal scenario: Hojlund for Osimhen

Osimhen, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most lethal forwards, could be a transformative signing for United. Though currently on loan at Galatasaray, he has netted 29 goals across all competitions, reaffirming his elite-level pedigree.

Valued at around £56 million, United could potentially reduce the financial outlay by offering Hojlund in return.

Such a deal could be mutually beneficial. Osimhen would finally get the opportunity to test himself in the Premier League. Something he’s openly desired. While Hojlund could thrive in the more tactical and less physically demanding environment of Serie A, where he previously impressed at Atalanta.

Ultimately, while Juventus’ interest in Hojlund is understandable, United must tread carefully.

Trading away a high-potential striker like Hojlund for a less dynamic option in Vlahovic could be a step backward. Unless it facilitates the acquisition of a truly world-class talent.
