New developments have emerged regarding Manchester City’s pursuit of Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso. Reigniting speculation first sparked during the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old Italian defender was heavily linked with a potential move to the Etihad Stadium earlier this year. At the time, City were navigating a critical phase in the season, grappling with a growing injury list. And underwhelming performances that prompted an aggressive recruitment campaign.

In the span of just a few weeks, City secured signings such as Nico Gonzalez, Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Vitor Reis. Those moves that were part of a broader effort to reinforce Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Despite these successful additions, the club was unable to close a deal for a full-back, with Cambiaso being one of the top names under consideration.

Andrea Cambiaso was primary target for Cityzens

According to trusted transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Cambiaso was City’s primary defensive target in January. However, financial constraints and Juventus’s reluctance to sell mid-season meant the deal was put on hold.

Nonetheless, Juventus are now reportedly more open to negotiations. And Cambiaso is once again emerging as a serious option for City as the summer window approaches.

Romano also highlights that while Cambiaso was receptive to a move in January. He maintained a professional attitude remaining loyal to Juventus and never requesting a transfer.

This balanced approach, showing both ambition and respect for his current club, may play in his favor when discussions resume.

Is not only Cambiaso in the City radar

Manchester City are widely expected to make a significant investment in the full-back department this summer. In addition to Cambiaso, the club is also monitoring other targets such as Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie.

Sources close to the club suggest that the board is prepared to allocate a substantial budget to address the need for depth and reliability in wide defensive areas.

There is also the looming possibility of several defensive departures. Kyle Walker is anticipated to leave, with interest from AC Milan and other European clubs.

Meanwhile, question marks remain over the futures of John Stones and Manuel Akanji, especially given Stones’ ongoing injury concerns and fluctuating form.

As City prepare for another transformative transfer window, Cambiaso’s name remains one to watch symbolizing both a strategic long-term investment and a solution to immediate squad needs.
